Dear IPMI Sampling & Analytical Committee member or LPPM Good Delivery Refiner,

We cordially invite you to take part in the first-ever round robin exercise for high-purity grade Palladium Sponge (around 999.5 o/oo). This exercise will include laboratories from both the LPPM (London Platinum and Palladium Market) and the IPMI (International Precious Metals Institute). By organising a joined exercise, we should have a large number of participants making the results relevant.

Sample Details:

Johnson Matthey has produced pure Palladium Sponge samples which weigh about 10 g each. The homogeneity of the samples was extensively tested and verified.
The cost to participate will be around $800 USD to cover the cost of the metal, as well as shipping costs.

Benefits of Participating:

Participating in interlaboratory testing programs (round robins) can be a useful tool for laboratory managers:

  • To validate current methods, explore alternate methods

  • Anonymously compare your laboratory’s performance to other laboratories

  • The generated report, unique to your laboratory, can be used to fulfill a requirement for ISO 17025 accreditation

  • The samples can be useful as in-house reference materials

Testing Details:

For analyzing the samples, we ask that you use the normal method that you regularly use to analyse high purity grade palladium sponge. Upon registering to receive a sample you will be given a list of recommended elements to analyze for. Results will be reported as ppm of the impurities in the metal and palladium by difference.

Please report separately a measure of the oxygen content / LOI / LOR, depending on which method your laboratory relies on usually. That value is not to be used for the palladium by difference calculation.

All results will be sent to the Administrative Manager of the IPMI, Sandra Arrants. She will make the results anonymous for data processing and statistical analysis.

All final reports will be distributed back to each lab by Sandra with your individual lab identifier. No outside entities will have access to the results with laboratory names.

If you would like to participate in this round robin exercise please email Sandra Arrants of the IPMI (mail@IPMI.org), or fill out a request form below. Upon receipt of your request you will receive the details on how to submit payment for the sample.

The deadline for the registration will be the 31st of July,  2022.

Please submit results on or before the 30th of September, 2022 to Sandra at the IPMI.

We hope to have this exercise completed by mid-October 2022.

Let us know if you have any questions about this project.
